My mom was diagnosed with stage iv ovarian cancer in June 2017. Aside from the hysterectomy surgery she’s basically had one 4 month break from chemo during that time. Just after Thanksgiving she was sent to the ER with plural effusion and they drained one side. She had to go back to the ER after Christmas and they had to drain the other side. The following week she was scheduled for chemo and the dr said no bc it looked like the plural effusion was already back. It wasn’t...the dr that removed the liquid after Christmas nicked her lung about 1mm. Usually that heals itself but hers got bigger to 3mm. They were going to go in and fix it but now they are going to let it heal itselfF now. In the meantime, the dr has told us that she doesn’t want to do any more chemo on my mom because it is not helping and only killing her And we should start talking and researching some hospice facilities. My sisters And I understand this. My mom does not. She does not want to stop chemo and does not want to start Hospice. She thinks that is giving up and she’s not ready to. I don’t know what to do. everything I read says it’s the patients decision on their treatment, but I can’t find any advice on someone going through chemo that doesn’t want to stop that must stop. We want her to be able to make decisions on treatment for herself and don’t know how to navigate this. Thanks for any advice or insight.
